Madadayo

Mase in 1998, when he was 83 years old, Madadayo was the last film by the Japanese master Akira Kurosawa, who died in 1998.  And yet the very title of the film argued against death: Madadayo means “not yet!”  This is the ritual cry which the film’s old professor shouts out at the end of every one of his birthday parties.  It essentially means that although death will come an may be near, life still goes on.
